About the Professor
Professor Katz graduated from the University of Houston in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology. He then spent the next 26 years operating his own property management business outside of Aspen, Colorado.
Professor Katz obtained his J.D. (with honors) from Concord Law School in 2005. He represented financial institutions in the mortgage banking and default servicing industry when he practiced at the Law Offices of Les Zieve in Huntington Beach, California.
After moving to the Seattle area, in 2009, Mr. Katz joined RCO Legal, P.S., a full-service mortgage banking law firm dedicated solely to the representation of the mortgage banking and default servicing industry as an associate attorney practicing civil litigation in California and Washington. The firm’s services include foreclosures, bankruptcy relief, deficiency recovery, evictions, litigation (prosecution and defense), loss mitigation, document preparation, escrow services, regulatory compliance, reconveyances and replevins.
In 2013, Mr. Katz returned to southern California to become General Counsel for Northwest Trustee Services, Inc., an affiliated company of the law firm operating in California, Oregon, Washington, Alaska, Nevada, Idaho and Montana. Northwest Trustee Services, Inc. works with financial institutions, credit unions, substantial investors with West Coast portfolios, title insurers, housing authorities and select businesses in all matters related to residential and commercial foreclosures, monitoring of senior lien sales, deposit and retrieval of surplus funds, loss mitigation and reconveyances.
In addition to being a member of the United Trustee’s Association, Mr. Katz speaks throughout the country on mortgage servicing and default related issues and has been a featured speaker at several USFN conferences as well as American Conference Institute events.
